The current strategy for Nyrstar falls into two areas:
Improving the assets
We intend to extract maximum synergies from operating our businesses as one organisation. We aim to leverage the combined engineering and technical excellence of our people around the world to achieve world-class plant reliability and process efficiency at all of our operations.
In particular we hope to realise optimal operating synergies in Europe, through our Balen, Overpelt and Budel plants which are located within 30km distance of each other.
Improving the industry
The zinc smelting industry is currently fragmented. Our leading position in the zinc industry allows us to play an active role in shaping direction, while benefiting from economies of scale as the world's largest zinc producer. We intend to improve the industry's returns by playing an active role in facilitating and contributing to the further consolidation of zinc smelting globally. Consolidation would improve concentrate purchasing power and encourage a more equitable value-share of zinc refining margins.
