Our Sustainability Approach
Nyrstar is a supplier to the global commodity markets and is driven by value creation. The sustainability of our business will be a result of our ability to provide economic benefits to our shareholders, our customers and the communities in which we operate; while not harming our people, our neighbours or the environment.
We contribute to sustainable development by extracting metals and other valuable byproducts from natural raw materials to meet society’s needs. Our products include zinc and zinc alloys, lead, silver, sulphuric acid, indium, copper and gold. We also increasingly contribute to the recycling of metals, particularly zinc and lead, from secondary sources.

Opportunities
Zinc and lead are globally traded commodities and the zinc smelting industry has historically been fragmented, which result in cyclical and variable returns to shareholders. A number of our production facilities have long operating histories and were established at a time when standards were different to what they are today. We must ensure that we meet the expectations of our stakeholders, which will continue to evolve over time.

Creating value by continually reviewing our portfolio of assets, improving returns from existing assets and seeking to grow the business
Ensuring that our activities do not adversely affect the health and safety of people that work at and live around our operating plants
Minimising the impact our production facilities have on the local environment by improving current emissions performance and addressing legacy issues
Improving our natural resource efficiency, including the use of raw materials, water and energy
