Nyrstar has a growing position in the precious and specialty metals markets. From our mining operations we produce gold and silver in concentrate and gold and silver dore. We also produce gold, silver, cadmium and indium (a specialty metal) as a by-product of our smelting process.
Gold
Gold is produced in concentrate and as gold dore from our mining operations. We also recover gold in the lead refining process as a silver- and gold-bearing crust. These are then treated in our precious metals refinery to produce a 98 per cent pure gold dore.
Silver
We are one of the world’s largest producers of refined silver. Nyrstar produces silver cast as 99.99 per cent pure silver bullion. Our silver bars and granules are of such high quality, they’re primarily used in the electronics sector. Our brand (BHAS) is certified and registered with the London Bullion Marketing Association (LBMA) and is regarded as one of the highest quality brands in the world. Silver is also produced in concentrate and as silver dore from our mining operations.
Indium
Indium is a rare, soft, silvery, metallic element that Nyrstar produces at our newly-commissioned Auby indium recovery plant. Global demand for indium has increased substantially in recent years, driven by its main application (as indium tin oxide) for use in flat panel television and video displays.
Cadmium
Cadmium is a soft, bluish-white, ductile metallic element that occurs in association with zinc ores. Its main use is in the production of nickel cadmium batteries.
