Global Head of Corporate Affairs

Location: Corporate Office


To develop and execute external and internal communications and engagement plans that protect and enhance Nyrstar’s corporate reputation with key stakeholders. To advise management on their engagement with media, governments, public affairs audiences and influencers, and employees, and develop impactful campaigns and communications that support the successful delivery of Nyrstar’s strategy and underpin employee engagement, recruitment and retention.

The role will provide direction to and oversight of Nyrstar’s global corporate affairs activities, leading a small team of corporate affairs and communications professionals and working closely
with global and regional management, HR and other functions, as well as with Trafigura corporate affairs to ensure co-ordination across the wider Group.


  • Media relations: Foster and maintain constructive and strong relationships with media in key locations for the business.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Identify key external stakeholders and develop opportunities to build constructive relationships for the business including with governments, regulators, NGOs, banks and others.

  • Government relations / public affairs: Monitor and provide advice on government policy and regulatory changes and support Nyrstar management in engaging with and building
    constructive relationships with key government and regulatory stakeholders. Develop and execute lobbying and engagement campaigns to support the business as required.
  • Issues management: Provide issues and crisis management advice and crisis PR support to the management team as and when required, liaising with Trafigura corporate affairs as
  • ESG policy and positioning: Contribute to the development of and lead the communication of Nyrstar’s HSEC and ESG strategy, policies and positioning.
  • Strategic advice: Advise management on how macro changes to the industry, public policy and regulation and a changing media landscape could affect the Company and provide actionable advice on strategies to mitigate risk and maximize opportunities.
  • Digital and social media: Manage the company’s digital and social media communications, including the corporate website and intranet platforms, to develop engaging content and key information to support key business activities and campaigns.
  • Brand marketing and content: Develop pro-active communications content and campaigns that promote and support Nyrstar’s corporate brand and reputation, positioning Nyrstar as a leader in its industry and in environmental, health and safety and community performance.
  • Functional leadership: Leads and oversees Nyrstar’s global corporate affairs activities and personnel, ensuring a co-ordinated, coherent approach across the company and in alignment with Trafigura Group. Functional performance management and responsibility for corporate affairs recruitment to support business requirements.
  • Agency and external supplier management: Effectively manage external public affairs and communications agencies and external advisors to obtain maximum value and ensure clear co-ordination.

  • Strategic thinking: Develops global strategy and translates into clear, actionable objectives and plans for teams and individuals; creates plans that address specific reputational concerns and opportunities that are appropriate for the external context.
  • Communications skills: Credible and confident presenter at Board level and with senior external stakeholders; strong written and verbal communications skills, ability to communicate  complex ideas clearly and to develop compelling written, visual and digital content.
  • Interpersonal skills: Good interpersonal and relationship-building skills to build connections throughout the company.
  • Creative skills: The creative ability to devise engaging communication strategies and creative content to support the Company’s communications initiatives.
  • Digital skills: Familiarity with information technology, especially digital and video means of communication, is essential.
  • Language skills: Fluency (written and spoken) in English, French and Dutch.


Degree-level education, with a qualification in journalism, communications, public relations or marketing an advantage.

Relevant Experience

10+ years experience in a senior corporate affairs or communications role, preferably within a multinational organisation.

Reporting Structure

Reports directly to CEO and manages a team of communications and corporate affairs professionals (either directly or functionally).
