Risk & Compliance Officer

Location: Corporate Office

THE ROLE:

The Risk & Compliance Officer is responsible for further developing the risk & compliance function for the global Nyrstar group activities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Continue development and continuous improvement of Nyrstar’s Risk & Compliance program;
  • Review, update and implementation of global legal compliance policies and procedures;
  • To anchor Compliance in business operations, make an active contribution to the development and execution of training and awareness programs;
  • Perform monitoring of adherence to compliance policies, standards and processes;
  • Periodically conduct risk assessments (including regulatory, operational and IT risks) in order to identify, analyse and respond to and mitigate such risks. Report on identified threats and risks to management and board members and initiating an action plan to mitigate and control the risks;
  • Monitor industry trends and potential changes to regulation and/or policies and their impact on risk and compliance programs, monitoring and/or reporting;
  • Participate in risk and compliance related projects (as project manager or team member) in order to ensure delivery of key risk and/or compliance initiatives;
  • Chair and organise the Risk & Compliance Committee and the Data Protection Team.

EXPECTATIONS:

  • Permanent contract
  • Full time – 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
  • Highest levels of ethical behavior and integrity, combined with the strength of character needed to uphold and reinforce these values within an organizational setting
  • Proven ability and experience in handling and managing critical, sensitive and/or complex matters in a confidential and professional manner
  • Proven ability and experience in writing comprehensive memorandum, preparing project, policy and training materials and producing other work product with sensitivity to target audience
  • Ability to act as an ambassador for the Nyrstar risk and compliance program and inspire stakeholders to live up to this program
  • Ability to work independently in a productive and proactive manner across multiple jurisdictions
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor or master degree (e.g. law, economics, business administration)
  • Approximately 5 - 7 years of work experience in a similar position and preferably in an international production environment
  • Knowledge of legal compliance and corporate laws and regulations (globally)
  • Strong risk & compliance focus; experience with risk and compliance management systems; corporate investigation defense work
  • Fluent in English, working knowledge of French and/or Dutch will be beneficial
