As part of the SHEQ department, you will promote our Safe Production culture, coach and mentor our personnel, and constantly strive to deliver simple and efficient safety systems.  You will enjoy the human element of the role, maintaining a strong site presence to monitor and mentor. You are someone who takes pride in their impact influencing systems and behaviours. Within this role you will also support incident investigation, risk management, and emergency management.

Working at a complex fixed plant Major Hazard Facility, and with the small SHEQ team covering a large scope of work, you will have the opportunity to develop your career and gain a wide range of experience. 

We need an experienced Health and Safety professional with a passion for effective communication and relationship-building, from interacting with key stakeholders, to transmitting technical information and developing occupational health and safety legislation into practical ideas.

Key accountabilities of the role will be to;

  • Promote and support the embedment of Nyrstar Hobart’s Safe Production culture 
  • Be actively involved in the continuous improvement of Nyrstar Hobart’s Health and Safety management system to ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements, contemporary standards and best practices.
  • Influence the site to ensure ownership of safety management including effectiveness of systems, processes and tools to manage health and safety
  • Drive continuous improvement in risk and safety management systems – striving for effectiveness and simplicity
  • Coach, mentor and champion safety systems and behaviours across the employee and contractor workforce.
  • Support leaders with incident investigation and trends analysis

 The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and committed professional with:

  • Qualifications in a relevant discipline with a thorough understanding of leading practice safety management
  • Attention to detail and an analytical mind
  • Proven ability to communicate, engage, and influence employees and management at all levels
  • Demonstrated direct impact on safety performance and ability to effect safety cultural change
  • Strong theoretical understanding and practical heavy industry experience
