Procurement Specialist – Cell House Project-Fixed Term – 30 months

Nyrstar Australia’s Zinc site in Hobart is one of the world’s largest zinc smelters in terms of production volume, focusing on high-value added products. This major expansion project is considered global best practice and involves replacing the existing Electrolysis Plant to support continued, sustainable and safe production. This is a fantastic opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Procurement Specialist. This position reports to the Procurement Manager and is responsible for the sourcing and acquisition of critical goods and service requirements for the project. 

This role will deliver value to the project through strong commercial acumen and strategic and analytical thinking, market intelligence and negotiation skills. 

Key accountabilities include:

  • Planning and strategy development and sourcing / procurement of services, goods and equipment.
  • Development of sourcing strategies, tendering (including conduct of tender clarifications / negotiations and evaluation), drafting of contractual clauses to suit final negotiated positions, drafting of general commercial documentation and facilitation of general commercial / contractual requirements in post-award period.
  • Leading contract negotiations, including capturing cost savings, dispute / claim resolution and managing contractor and internal stakeholder relationships.
  • Managing compliance and the contract life cycle to achieve best value and commercial outcomes, including managing variations and disputes.
  • Cost analysis and reduction.
  • A solid understanding of principles of contract law, and the ability to properly and adequately identify, allocate and manage risks and exposures.

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in a similar role/industry for a minimum of 4 years.
  • Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline, i.e. Commercial, Supply Chain or Technical. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills & SAP capabilities an advantage.
  • CIPS Level 5 qualified or equivalent desirable.
  • Demonstrated competencies in category management including market intelligence, analysis, contract administration and negotiation planning and execution. 
  • Fundamental knowledge of contract law.
  • Fluent in mandarin advantageous.
