Overview of the role

Senior Hygiene Technician wanted – are you who we are looking for?

Are you undertaking or willing to undertake a tertiary education in Occupational Hygiene and or related field?

Do you have experience in undertaking Occupational Hygiene related monitoring and sampling, desirably in the Mining, minerals processing or heavy industries.

You will play a key role in supporting all aspects of the site Occupational Hygiene Program including:

  • Undertaking field-based activities relating to the anticipation, recognition, evaluation and control of hazards in the workplace.
  • Undertaking various monitoring programs – including personal, area, biological or environmental monitoring, utilising a range of equipment and chemical, biological, ergonomic and physical hazards methodologies.
  • Collaborating with the site Hygienist & Occupational Hygiene Technician, in order to schedule, conduct, evaluate and prepare reports on occupational hygiene exposure monitoring and auditing in compliance with site and regulatory standards.
  • Providing active support for and participation in all aspects of the site blood lead management and or hygiene programs.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative exposure assessment of health hazards for workplace, tasks and job positions.

Ideally the successful candidates will be residentially based or willing to relocate to Port Pirie. Nyrstar will provide support and relocation assistance. This role is Monday to Friday roster with an on call roster.

Do you have the additional requisites of:

  • Completed or competing the basic Principals in Occupational Hygiene Course.
  • Radiation Safety Officer, license to use or handle radioactive sources (desirable).
  • Completion or currently enrolment in tertiary education in the area of Occupational Hygiene, Work Health and Safety or Public and Environmental Health (desirable).
  • Experience using and maintaining gas detection equipment personal and confined space gas monitors.
  • Advance computer skills including MS Office/SAP/RIMS.
  • Demonstrated key stakeholder engagement & influencing skills to build relationships & negotiate effectively.
  • Demonstrated time management & organisational skills - able to prioritise & multitask.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical expertise and practical solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and accommodate a diverse and dynamic workload.
  • Ability to be flexible to accommodate changing work demands on short notice and workhours.
