Contonga and Pucarrajo, Peru

The Contonga and Pucarrajo mines comprise approximately 4,900 hectares of mining concessions, located 500 kilometres north of Lima in the Ancash region, which is well known for its significant zinc, lead, silver, gold and copper deposits. The Contonga mine is an underground multimetallic mine with more than 25 years of operating history. The mine is currently processing approximately 990 tonnes of ore per day. The mine is located approximately 470 kilometers of Lima, Peru.
The Pucarrajo mine had been in operation for more than 30 years before it was put on care and maintenance in 2008 due to weak metal prices. The ramp-up of this mine to commercial production is continuing to be assessed against other internal and external growth opportunities. The Contonga and Pucarrajo mines are managed in conjunction with the Coricancha mine by a single experienced management team, utilising the shared services of Nyrstar’s Lima office.
