Two years ago, Huseyin Duran (40) started at Nyrstar as an electrical engineer. Today he is coordinating a technical maintenance team during the installation of a new casting line. ‘I’ve always been proud of what I do and motivated and that gets noticed here.’
‘When I started here two years ago, I received on-the-job training from an experienced colleague. That's how I learned the trade, but I immediately fell in love with the job.’
Duran's passion and commitment did not go unnoticed. Before long he was offered a position coordinating a technical maintenance team. ‘Today I'm coordinating eight people. Our team is deployed on large growth projects.’

Duran's team is currently helping to start up a new casting line in Balen, which is due to go into operation at the end of this year. ‘I do the same work as my colleagues, but I also ensure that everything is delivered

Focus on what's important
Duran also really feels that he is the right man in the right place at Nyrstar. He attributes this partly to his attitude. He wants to provide for his family – he has a wife and two children – and above all wants to get ahead in life.
‘I’ve always had faith in the fact that everything will turn out fine, as long as you work hard for it and also make sure everyone sees it. If you approach life like this, you can perfectly put small problems or temporary setbacks into perspective and keep the focus on what’s really important. At Nyrstar I get that opportunity. Here I can prove who I am and what I can do and I’m judged on my qualities.’
