Nyrstar Balen invested close to 6 million euro to process an even wider range of raw materials

Nyrstar is at a positive turning point, which is also noticeable on their site in Balen. This month the zinc smelter commissions brand new electrostatic precipitators to facilitate the processing of an even wider range of raw materials.

This represents an investment of almost 6 million euros and systems are built using the latest technologies. Nyrstar once again proves that they continue to invest in a sustainable, safe and stable production.

“Nyrstar Balen/Pelt processes even the most complex concentrates into to zinc of the highest quality. This is due to the more than 130 years of knowledge and experience we have within our company, and we are particularly proud of that. The new electrostatic precipitators enable us to enhance removal of redundant elements from raw materials. This gives us a wider choice on the raw materials market and keeps us competitive in the long term. In addition, we continue to improve the quality of our sulphuric acid," says Inge Schildermans, General Manager of Nyrstar in Belgium.

A similar system will be fitted at Nyrstar's zinc smelters in the Netherlands and France.

Earlier this year Nyrstar Balen commissioned their own zinc dust plant and zinc oxide hub, initiatives that became a reality after in 2019 Nyrstar became largely owned by Trafigura, a global commodity trader.
