Nyrstar Budel invests over 22 million euros to process an even wider range of raw materials

Nyrstar is at a positive turning point and that is also noticeable at their site in Budel, The Netherlands. The zinc smelter is currently replacing its gas cleaning system with a brand new one in order to process an even wider range of raw materials. This represents an investment of over 22 million euros and a process built using the latest technologies. With this,
Nyrstar once again delivers proof that they are investing in a sustainable, safe and stable
production.

"For more than 125 years we've been producing zinc in Budel that's in demand worldwide because of the high quality. We are very proud of that. The new gas cleaning system enables us to improve the removal of excess elements from raw materials, giving us a wider choice on the raw materials market and remaining competitive in the long term as one of the largest zinc smelters in the world. In addition, the new gas cleaning system allows us to continue improve the quality of our sulfuric acid. Our operators will be thoroughly trained to work safely with the
installation - which is also ergonomically built," says Henk Leendertse, General Manager of
Nyrstar Budel.

The first part of the gas cleaning will be operational in November 2020. The last part will be ready in the autumn of 2021.

Nyrstar's zinc smelters in Belgium and France are having similar systems built in.

Budel's gas cleaning installation became a reality after Nyrstar became largely owned byTrafigura, a global commodity trader, in 2019.
