Capital Spend Category Lead - Fixed Term – 30 months

Location: Hobart
Hours: Monday - Friday

Nyrstar will be commencing a major capital project in Q4 2022 to replace the electrolytic cellhouse at its Hobart Zinc Smelter.  A position is, therefore, available for a limited tenure of 30 months to cover the role of Capital Spend Category Lead - being responsible for all tendering and contracting across site for capital projects and shutdowns. The site is currently undergoing significant investment and expansion with a number of exciting projects starting up in the near future.  This role represents a great opportunity to participate and grow skill sets and experience. 

Key accountabilities:

  • Planning and strategy development and sourcing/procurement of services, goods and equipment.
  • Development of sourcing strategies, tendering (including conduct of tender clarifications/negotiations and evaluation), drafting of contractual clauses to suit final negotiated positions, drafting of general commercial documentation and facilitation of general commercial/contractual requirements in post-award period.
  • Leading contract negotiations, including capturing cost savings, dispute/claim resolution and managing contractor and internal stakeholder relationships.
  • Managing compliance and the contract life cycle to achieve best value and commercial outcomes, including managing variations and disputes.
  • Cost analysis and reduction.
  • A solid understanding of principles of contract law, and the ability to properly and adequately identify, allocate and manage risks and exposures.
  • Managing interactions with key suppliers, lead renegotiations or engagement of new suppliers ensuring excellent commercial outcomes.
  • Supporting internal stakeholders with analysis of procurement strategic opportunities or risks that affect the future course of the business.
  • Committed to the achievement of individual, team and company objectives consistent with agreed values and behaviours in a customer service focused environment.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience as a contracts specialist or equivalent, preferably gained within the industrial, construction or resources sector.
  • Qualifications in an appropriate discipline i.e. commercial, supply chain or technical.
  • Prior experience running full end-to-end tender processes required.
  • Experience with contract negotiations, preparation and drafting required.
  • A solid understanding of principles of contract law required.
  • Strong general administration and support skills required.
  • Ability to develop quality relationships with suppliers.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Previous experience with ERP based contract management systems and procure-to-pay processes (SAP preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically MS Word and Excel required.
